Frequently Asked Questions
Does ear wax removal hurt?
Most people find microsuction comfortable and not painful. Using olive oil for 3–5 days before your appointment can help soften the wax, making removal easier and more comfortable. If you experience any discomfort during the procedure, just let me know. I can stop at any time or adjust the treatment to make it as gentle as possible.
Do I need to use olive oil before my appointment?
Using olive oil for 3–5 days before your appointment is recommended, as it helps soften the ear wax and can make removal quicker and more comfortable. Apply 2–3 drops twice a day and lie on the opposite side for around 2 minutes after each application.
What if there isn't any ear wax?
Not sure if it’s ear wax? I recommend booking an Ear Examination first. This is a lower-cost appointment that allows me to examine your ears and determine whether ear wax is causing your symptoms. If microsuction is needed, the cost of the examination will be deducted from your treatment. If no ear wax is present and you’ve booked directly for ear wax removal, a reduced fee of £30 will apply to cover the assessment.
How long does the appointment take?
Every appointment is different. Some ear wax can be removed within a few minutes, while harder or more impacted wax may take the full appointment time. I will always work carefully and at a pace that keeps you as comfortable as possible.
Is microsuction safe?
Yes. Microsuction is a safe and effective method of ear wax removal when performed by a trained clinician. Your ears will be examined first, and I’ll recommend the most appropriate treatment, whether that’s microsuction or, in some cases, ear irrigation. I’ll always explain your options before treatment, and nothing will be carried out without your consent.
Is wax removal guaranteed in one appointment?
Most ear wax can be removed in one appointment. However, if the wax is particularly hard or deeply impacted, you may need to continue using olive oil for a few more days before returning. If a follow-up appointment is required, the fee is £20.
Do you treat children
I currently offer ear wax removal for adults aged 18 and over only.
